Mondelez International receives Responsible Business Awards accolade

Mondelez International has been recognised with a ‘Big Tick’ as part of the prestigious Responsible Business Awards 2014, which are run by the charity Business in the Community.

The Big Tick is the first level of accolade in the Responsible Business Awards, the UK’s longest-running and most respected awards scheme recognising businesses that are making a positive difference to society and to the environment.

Mondelez International achieved the Big Tick for its Health for Life in primary schools programme in the Building Stronger Communities category which aims to recognise partnerships between businesses and community organisations, where businesses have worked with a community partner to identify and address a key social issue.

Health for Life in primary schools engages school communities in healthy lifestyles, embedding work in the school culture and curriculum in a sustainable manner. Working in partnership with the Health Education Service it is intended to increase pupils’ knowledge and skills and effect changes in healthy attitudes and behaviour.

Kelly Farrell, Community Affairs Manager at Mondelez International, said, “Mondelez International is thrilled to receive a Big Tick award for our Health for Life programme and we are so pleased to be working with the Health Education Service to support our local communities across South Birmingham. The programme has already proved successful and has significantly changed the behaviours of so many people in the region.”

As well as this recognition, Mondelez International was one of only five companies that were shortlisted to present their programme to a select group of senior business peers with a chance to be named overall winner in the Building Stronger Communities category.

Sixty companies have been shortlisted in total across all the categories. Winners will be announced on 8 July 2014 in London at Business in the Community’s National Awards Gala Dinner, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales and in partnership with the 2013 Responsible Business of the Year, Jaguar Land Rover.

Mondelez International was also the overall winner in the Local Impact West Midlands Employee Volunteering Business category, which recognises businesses that have made volunteering culturally normal, engaging employees across the business and demonstrating an impact on the local community.

A Big Tick is a leading endorsement of responsible business, and companies are awarded for initiatives tackling a range of issues: from stimulating local or rural communities, building long-term partnerships with schools, inspiring young talent, to embedding environmental sustainability into how products and services are used by customers.
