Blakemore Wholesale appoints new managing director

Spar wholesaler AF Blakemore has announced the appointment of Craig O’Connor as managing director, with a focus on the company’s cash and carry operation.

O’Connor took up the role on 2nd March and will report to Sam Wilcox, who continues in his role as overall managing director for the company’s wholesale divisions.

Appointed managing director of DB Ramsden Ltd in 2004, O’Connor also served as managing director of Re-Scan Epos Solutions from 2006. The move will be O’Connor’s second spell at AF Blakemore, having worked in a variety of roles across the company’s cash & carry business between 1984 and 2003.

Craig O’Connor said: “While AF Blakemore now has the scale, it remains a family business with strong values and we are perfectly placed to seize the opportunities that are out there.

“I now want to share my experiences over the past few years, especially in relation to delivered wholesale, on-trade and the utilisation of IT solutions to help improve the overall customer experience.”

Sam Wilcox added: “Craig has a proven track record with a strong reputation across the wholesale cash & carry sector for introducing new and innovative approaches to business.

“Blakemore Wholesale has built solid foundations following the recent acquisition of the Lowries and BA cash & carry chains and I believe that Craig will help take our business to the next level.”
