EAT reports huge losses in year investing in refurb programme

Sandwich shop group, Eat has posted losses that shot to £26.3m in the 12 months to 26 June 2014, in comparison to £12.8m in the previous year.

Turnover stood at £93,953,000, slightly down from £93,596,000 in 2013. Capital expenditure was up to £11,724,000 from £2,506,000 in the previous year. Operating losses were £4,726,000, a rise from £3,064,000 in the previous year.

The figures can be explained as the company started a full refurbishment programme in 2014. At June, close to half of all Eat stores had been refurbished and have delivered a solid top-line sales uplift.
