Baton Berisha has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of Rare Restaurants, the parent company of Gaucho and M Restaurants.
Berisha, who assumes his role immediately, previously spent seven years at the Ivy Collection and had a brief tenure as managing director at D&D London.
He was recruited by the Wolseley Hospitality Group in 2022, shortly after its owners, Minor International, took control from founder Jeremy King. However, he resigned last summer to explore new opportunities.
Berisha takes over from former Rare Restaurants CEO Martin Williams, who departed in October after seven years with the company. Williams will take on his new role as chief executive of Evolv Collection, the rebranded D&D London, at the end of March.
David Campbell, chair of Rare Restaurants, said: “The shareholders and I are delighted to welcome Baton to the chief executive role at this key point in the company’s development. His extensive experience as chief executive of several premium dining brands made him the standout candidate. I have had the pleasure of working with Baton at the Ivy Collection and witnessed his skills first-hand, and we look forward to him joining the Rare team.”
Rare Restaurants operates 20 Gaucho steakhouses across the UK, along with M Restaurant in the City of London.
Berisha added: “I am incredibly honoured to join Rare Restaurants at such a pivotal time for the business. The company has historically upheld a strong reputation for excellence and creativity, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead to build on these solid foundations. I look forward to working with the talented team to drive the next phase of growth and innovation while delivering an exceptional experience for our guests.”
His appointment coincides with Gaucho's plans to introduce a new concept, Gaucho Go, at the soon-to-open Boxhall food hall in the City of London, featuring the brand’s signature steak and chips, burgers, and a fresh take on the classic hot dog.
