Apex City of Bath Hotel named New Business of the Year

Apex City of Bath Hotel has been named New Business of the Year at this year’s Bath Life Awards.

The £50m venue, which opened on the city’s James Street West last August, was among six finalists in the category, which also included The Cakery and Ivy Bath Brasserie.

General Manager, Tim O’Sullivan, collected the award alongside members of his team at the glittering ceremony at the Assembly Rooms on 22 March.

As Bath’s largest hotel, the property boasts 177 bedrooms, restaurant, bar, gymnasium and pool and sits at the heart of the city just minutes from Bath’s major tourist attractions – including the famous Roman Baths.

Its opening also created more than 100 jobs in the city, offering opportunities to those looking to get into the hospitality industry, as well as more experienced individuals keen to further their careers in the sector.

It is also Bath’s only purpose-built city centre conference and events facility, with capacity for up to 400 delegates.

Since opening, the hotel has welcomed several large conferences and events to the city, as well as playing host to regional social events such as the annual Bath Rugby shirt sponsor dinner and Bath Business Awards.

The team has also forged a charity partnership with Bath Rugby Foundation – another award-winner on the night – most recently giving guests the option to add a £1 donation to the Foundation on their bill.

The judges were impressed with the scale of the hotel’s impact since opening, saying: “A scale offering such as Apex was desperately needed in Bath and it has had a superb impact after a £50 million investment, contributing massively to the economy of the city.”

Tim O’Sullivan, General Manager at Apex City of Bath Hotel, said, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have been named New Business of the Year, particularly when up against such tough competition in the category.

“The team has worked so hard, from long before the hotel opened and beyond, to ensure its success so the award is testament to their commitment. I’m exceptionally proud of what we have achieved, and glad to see that the team’s hard work is being recognised by others within the city.”
