Wagamama’s home cooking series returns

Wagamama’s hugely successful Wok From Home - the simple home cooking series designed to help nourish the nation during lockdown is back.

The massively popular free online cooking show, which earlier this year saw over ten million people tune in during the first lockdown, is now showing.

Presented by Wagamama’s executive chef Steve Mangleshot, Wok From Home 2 returns with the same ambition of teaching viewers more about pan Asian cooking, however, this time around he's doing things a little differently

Wagamam superfans will be cooking the chain's classics with Mangleshot during each episode. Like last time, the episodes will be shared across Wagamama’s social channels including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

Mangleshot’s wife Claire is back behind the camera in their home kitchen and Steve will reaching out to lucky fans in the UK, via WhatsApp, giving them the chance to cook along with him in the different episodes that will run through to December.

For episode one, Mangleshot is cooking along with a student fan based in Sheffield named Ella. Earlier this week, Ella who is a vegetarian, was sent a delivery from Steve with everything she would need to cook wagamama’s legendary hot Yasai Katsu Curry for herself and bubble of three flat mates.

Mangleshot is the creative director of menu innovation at Wagamama and has been with the company for over twenty years. He is responsible for the development of fresh new dishes for the Wagamama menu, taking inspiration from Japan and wider Asia and bringing eastern flavours to the west.

Mangleshot said, “I’m thrilled to bring the Wagamama kitchen home again and this time round we are going to be teaching superfans how to cook our classic dishes.

'Cooking along together with the nation genuinely helped me through the first lockdown and I know it helped a lot of others too. So, it only felt right to bring it back for lockdown 2. But we thought we’d have a little more fun with it this time around!”

Since the first lockdown ended, Wagamama has been continuing to nourish the nation both in restaurant and beyond. From supporting student’s mental health through a partnership with YoungMinds, to supplying fresh food drops and free school meals to those who need it most. Plus launching a new menu against all odds, which focused on offering more choice for their non-gluten guests.

CEO Emma Woods said, “For us, the really important stuff goes far beyond our bowls. When lockdown two was announced we made a commitment to do whatever we feasibly could to continue supporting our guests with mental health support, food drops for those who need it most and of course the return of wok from home, which we hope will spread a bit of positivity while we wait to open our doors again for dine-in.”
