The 2014 Ryder Cup, which is to be held at the Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland, has begun its procurement process with the catering and food supply contract now up for the taking. Around 5,000 people are expected to be employed on projects directly related to the event.
The 2014 Ryder Cup procurement process will be hosted on the Public Contracts Scotland (PCS) website and features a number of contract opportunities, including: catering and food supplies; security; merchandising and waste management. Contracts will be awarded over the next 18 months, with the first expected to be awarded within the next three months. The focus will be on those who show emphasis on sustainability, environmental, social and ethical issues.
The tournament, which is held every two years alternately in the USA and Europe, was last held at Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales in 2010 when Compass Group partnered with Oxfordshire based caterer Mecco to deliver catering and hospitality.
The PCS portal has 60,000 businesses already registered and Ryder Cup Europe is encouraging companies to use the portal to ensure they hear about new contract opportunities. The Ryder Cup procurement portal is a joint initiative between Ryder Cup Europe, the Scottish Government and Scottish Enterprise.
Ryder Cup Europe expects to attract more than 250,000 spectators to Gleneagles in September 2014.
Suppliers of barriers, fencing, telecommunications, portable offices, transport and other infrastructure-related areas are also being sought.
