M&S has announced plans to open six new or refurbished stores across London by the end of the year.
The high-street retailer has opened a 5,300 sq ft fresh foodhall on Southampton Street in Covent Garden and this week reopened its Temple Fortune and Wimbledon foodhalls following renovations.
The retailer also plans to open two additional foodhalls next month in Clapham Common and Fulham Broadway.
A refurbished store in Chiswick is scheduled to open in early December, ahead of Christmas, with the new and renewed locations expected to create more than 200 jobs.
Thinus Keeve, Retail Director at M&S, said: “We want to be proud of every store we have across the capital, and as we reshape for growth, our focus is opening new stores to grow our footprint but also renewing those stores where we can deliver a better shopping experience for our customers.
“It’s brilliant to have such a strong property pipeline across London in the months ahead. We want to bring more of that M&S magic to communities and on the commute, and we’re doing just that, just in time for the festive season.”
The renovations will introduce a range of new features, including in-store bakeries and coffee counters, market-style produce sections with fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as dedicated flower and wine shops within redesigned store layouts.
This forms part of the retailer’s £90m investment in London, announced earlier this year, which includes plans to open six new foodhalls and refurbish eleven stores within the current financial year.
