Jamavar regains Michelin star

Jamavar, the fine Indian restaurant on London's Mount Street, has regained its Michelin status, having been awarded a one-star rating in today’s Michelin awards.

Founded by Samyukta Nair, alongside Culinary Director Surender Mohan (pictured) as part of LSL Capital, Jamavar London joins restaurants which have been awarded new stars in the 2022 Great Britain and Ireland Michelin Guide.

Under the guidance of Nair, the restaurant has won loyal fans and supporters, many of whom visit weekly. The kitchen helmed by Executive Chef Surender Mohan, showcases a love of dishes from both the Royal kitchens of Northern India and the coastal cuisine from the Southern states, exploring pan-Indian flavours using a range of authentic cooking techniques.

Dishes such as Kid Goat Shami Kebab, Telicherry Pepper & Garlic Soft Shell Crab, Malai Stone Bass Tikka, Leela’s Lobster Neeruli, Old Delhi Butter Chicken, Laal Maas and Kesar Mango Rasmalai have won plaudits from diners in London as well as international travellers who return every year.

Jamavar opened its doors in 2016. The restaurant was born from a love of the regional dishes of the Northern and Southern states, as well as recipes passed down from the matriarch of the Nair family, Leela Nair.

The restaurant has brought the essence of palatial Indian dining to Mayfair with an effusive design, offset with flourishes and patterns of Jamavar shawls, and hand cut marquetry that draws inspiration from the Viceroy’s house.

Nair said, “We are so thrilled to regain this prestigious accolade. It’s a huge credit to Surender and the team and testament to our relentless fight to win this back during such a challenging time.”

Mohan added, “I am honoured to be recognised by such a respected association and would like to thank all of those who have kept supporting us throughout these past few years.”
