J Sainsbury opens hat-trick of new convenience stores

Three new Sainsbury’s Locals have opened for customers with the launch of Sainsbury’s Waterloo Station Local and Sainsbury’s Shepherds Bush The Broadway Local in London, as well as the relaunch of Sainsbury’s Bramhall Woodford Road Local in Bramhall, Stockport.

Sainsbury’s latest store to open alighted at London Waterloo Station with the arrival of a brand-new Local at The Sidings, a new experience-led leisure, dining and retail destination within the former Eurostar Terminal at the UK’s busiest station. The Sidings has been delivered by LCR, the specialist regeneration and placemaking expert.

The new 2,452 sq. ft. Sainsbury’s Local will feature the very latest high quality, great value convenience range the retailer has to offer, including fresh food, fruit and veg and a selection of branded and own brand groceries and general merchandise.

The store will also provide newspapers and magazines for commuters and shoppers to pick up as they pass through the busy station, alongside fresh bread and pastries baked instore every day, an instore juicer and hot drinks from a Costa Coffee machine.

Customers will have the option to checkout using Mobile Pay or SmartShop, Sainsbury’s scan, pay and go technology, allowing them to pay for products using their smartphones – making the process faster and more convenient. From today, the store’s 29 colleagues will help and serve customers between the hours of 6am to midnight seven days a week.

Sainsbury’s opened another new store in London as it launched its new Local in W12 Shopping Centre in Shepherd’s Bush. Conveniently located just across the road from Shepherds Bush Underground Station, the 2,127 sq. ft. store has opened in part of what was formerly the retailer’s Argos store with a team of 22 colleagues and it is now open to customers from 7am to 11pm seven days a week.

The retailer also relaunched Sainsbury’s Bramhall Local store in Greater Manchester at a new nearby location on Woodford Road after serving the community from its original home since 2014. The 17-strong colleague team has not changed but the store itself has reopened as a bright, fresh new Sainsbury’s Local with a revamped look and feel to fit the retailer’s latest store design.

The new 4,115 sq. ft. store is over 1,000 sq. ft. larger than the original, meaning customers will have access to more products than before. It will also be open for an additional hour each day, now helping and serving customers between the hours of 7am and 11pm seven days a week.

Patrick Dunne, Property Director, shared, “It’s always a pleasure to welcome new stores to our estate, whether by bringing Sainsbury’s to a high street or neighbourhood for the first time, creating new jobs, or by investing in expanding, improving and sometimes even relocating our existing stores.

'We are continuing to deliver on our ambitious plans for growth and we are excited to be opening at least 25 new stores over the next twelve months, at carefully selected locations throughout the UK where we know they have the greatest impact for our customers.”
