Event caterer, Seasoned has become the sole caterer at the historic, Downham Hall in Essex.
The venue owners, Christina and Andrew Metcalfe, have recently purchased both wings of the property and have chosen Seasoned to oversee catering at the new venue, for future events after being impressed by the caterer’s 30 year tenure in the events industry and their ethos of seasonal, locally sourced produce.
The Metcalfe’s first venture within the hospitality and events sector, has led them to transform the property, which has stood since the 1700’s, into a home for numerous functions including dinners, receptions and private events, while also offering room hire.
They are now planning to boost their wedding offering by providing couples with a newly renovated hall boasting picturesque scenery, a panoramic view of the surrounding area and the ability to accommodate guests in five refurbished rooms as part of their wedding package.
The couple also believe that Downham Hall’s grounds are incredibly attractive for both private and corporate event makers, with large charming spaces balanced with up to date facilities. The venue is tipped to play a hefty part in summer events in Essex for both clientele and can host both large and small scale BBQ’s, parties and receptions, while aiming to attract corporate business by offering summer conferencing space in their large marquee for a maximum of 200 delegates alongside indoor conferencing for 60 delegates.
Downham Hall also offers the choice of three newly renovated, bespoke, tailored guest rooms possessing a rustic, country-house theming in the South Wing of the venue for private hire.
Seasoned, known for their Michelin-star inspired menus, innovative approach to food and high profile backing from Food Director, Daniel Clifford forged a ‘special relationship’ with the new owners of the historic venue to secure an important deal that provides Downham Hall with a seasoned wedding caterer who adds yet another historic venue to their repertoire.

Downham Hall is a family-run establishment and is the former home of the famous de Beauvoir family, who are notable for aiding in the creation of large parts of London including Hackney and have their own district in East London called ‘de Beauvoir town’.
