Star licensees benefit from new deal on EPOS systems

Star Pubs & Bars has negotiated a new deal with leased and tenanted experts Microtill, which offers Star licensees bespoke EPOS solutions at prices they would not be able to obtain individually.

The move follows demand from Star licensees for support in sourcing more sophisticated EPOS systems. It reflects the increasing size and complexity of many Star pub businesses following investment in outdoor areas, function rooms and food.

Steve Dancer, Star Pubs & Bars buying director, said, “There have been huge developments in EPOS systems in recent years, but many leased operators and free traders have not upgraded their technology and so are not seeing all the benefits available.”

Selected following extensive collaboration and consultation with licensees, the EPOS package is comprehensive and includes hardware, software, installation, training and a national maintenance and repairs service with guaranteed call out times. The options are flexible so each licensee gets a bespoke system suited to their business with the costs tailored accordingly.

Licensees have access to tills, drawers, handhelds and kitchen monitors, printers and management systems and can run loyalty schemes and time clock staff shifts. Cloud software enables exceptional business reporting from stock-taking and wastage to live sales information including the status of customer numbers, spend and dwell time at every table in a dining area. The system comes with free integrated Chip and Pin technology as well as market leading rates on debit and credit card processing and Apple Pay.

Dancer added, “Getting the right EPOS system can revolutionise the way a pub operates and, used correctly, boosts profits. It is fundamental to keeping a business on track, understanding trading patterns and staff performance and running a pub effectively and efficiently.

'It’s also one of the most complex pieces of equipment a pub needs and with hundreds of suppliers and software and hardware options to consider, it’s difficult and time consuming for licensees to choose a system.

'We’re happy to have been able to do the legwork. Leveraging our buying power for the benefit of licensees means they get a great price without compromising on quality or service.”

The new Microtill EPOS solution will be used as a standard part of Star’s Innside Track stocktaking and accountancy package for new licensees. It will also be available to all Star licensees to purchase – though they are free to buy their system from any supplier. Multiple operators who need one system across all their sites will be able to buy it for non-Star sites too.
