Nandos owner takes £4m majority stake in Wahaca

Following the news that Mexican street food chain, Wahaca had entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA), with the closure of 11 sites, the chains has been rescued by Nando's owner, Dick Enthoven.

South African billionaire businessman has acquired a £4m majority stake in Wahaca’s parent company, Oaxaca Ltd, and has also extended a loan to the business as part of a recent financial restructuring to help Wahaca survive the pandemic.

Wahaca was founded by Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers and Mark Selby in 2006 and the first restaurant opened in London's Covent Garden in 2007. The pair went on to open 27 sites across the UK.

The chain's outlets in England will reopen on 3 December and are currently offering a takeaway service. The sites in Cardiff (pictured) and Edinburgh are open for dine-in, although the Edinburgh site is only open for dine-in from 12pm to 6pm, then takeaway.
