Grocer to the stars set to launch larger Chelsea site in May

Andreas on Chelsea Green has long been a curator of the very finest fruit, vegetables and speciality produce - with loyal customers including south west London residents as well as the UK’s most celebrated chefs.

Now, after 12 years operating from a tiny shop on Cale Street, Andreas Georghiou and his family - wife Sophia, daughters Tilly and Tabbi and son, Wilbur - are opening a brand new grocers, set to become one of London’s most spectacular food destinations.

Launching next door in a vast space complete with a striking curved glass frontage looking on to the green, the state-of-the-art grocer will offer a completely new shopping experience for customers - albeit with the Georghiou family’s trademark personal service remaining a constant.

While the previous space offered limited room for customers to peruse the superlative produce stocked from fantastic suppliers, the new shop will allow customers to take in the full range of fruits, vegetables, meats and cheeses in a relaxed way.

Two large symmetrical spaces will feature custom-made fridges packed with hard to find produce; choice cheeses from the UK, France and Italy; a comprehensive range of charcuterie; and even a selection of micro-herbs and edible flowers for those looking to serve restaurant-quality dishes at home.

The definitive grocers, Andreas will be a treasure trove of ingredients, featuring a wall of exotic fruits on one side of the shop, and a wall of tomatoes displaying over 30 different varieties on the other - while Tilly and Tabby have been working tirelessly to source exceptional products from across the UK, Europe, India and Japan. Andreas will also sell one-off items from some of the capital’s best restaurants.

Polished steel details and giant angled mirrors will contrast and reflect the rustic bare brick walls, with comfy sofas for customers to relax in while staff tot up sales at the till; while all shelving will be at a height that the majority of customers will be able to reach.

The Georghious will of course be on hand to assist visitors, either with recommendations of the most delicious and fresh produce, or simply to handpick items from across the sizable shop.

Venture downstairs and guests will stumble upon a wine room featuring a cabinet curated by Wild Tavern - a Chelsea Green neighbour - stocking an array of old world and new world wines.

After the opening of the new Andreas, the Georghiou clan will turn to the refurbishment of their current premises, which will be transformed into Kale Street: a bijou diner where guests can relax while ordering cocktails and freshly made juices made using fruit and veg plucked from the shelves, while enjoying brunch plates or bagels created by Wilbur and Tilly.

“We’ve come a long way since starting the business some 30 years ago in Chiswick,” said founder Andreas. “We have been very much part of the fabric of Chelsea since arriving 12 years ago, and we love seeing our loyal customers every day.

'This is a huge step forward for my family and I, and we hope we can continue to provide local residents and those further afield with something truly special: the definitive grocery shop. Whatever you’re in the market for, we have it.”
