Hydes to relocate to new £2m state of the art brewery

Family brewer and pub operator, Hydes has acquired premises for its new £2m brewery site at Kansas Avenue in Salford, close to Media City and Salford Quays. The company felt it was important to relocate to premises that were in close proximity to an area of expanding commerce and the new site will act as a suitable distribution hub to service the needs of the company’s 66-strong pub estate.

The new facility will house a state of the art brewery, considerably more efficient than the existing plant, and will allow Hydes to reposition its brewing business and focus exclusively on the production of high quality beers targeted at the growing cask ale sector. It will also enable the company to be more innovative and brew a much wider and more diverse range than before.

The move from the grade II listed Queens Brewery, in Moss Side, is also expected to end production in Manchester of Boddingtons bitter after more than 200 years. There will be about 18 jobs lost as a result of the closure of Queens Brewery, while around 30 jobs will move to the new site. Hydes aims to complete the relocation by late 2012.
