The world’s largest furniture retailer IKEA is set to make their way into the budget hotel sector, after plans were announced to open at 100 different located across Europe. The first is most likely to open in Germany in 2014 and the whole chain will be run by an international hotel operator.
IKEA’s owners, Inter IKEA have already been eyeing up possible countries for the new hotels. These include Britain, Poland, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Nordic countries. None of the properties will feature the company’s furniture nor its brand name, they will however still hold a Scandinavian feel. The name for the hotels is yet to be announced.
Inter IKEA already owns a number of hotels across Europe but will now work with another company to operate this new chain. The new project would be its first chain and will top its 26-acre home, office and hotel scheme around the Olympic park in London.
