Slug & Lettuce celebrates 40 years with £6.5m investment from Stonegate


Over the past 18 months, Stonegate Group has invested more than £6.5 million into its renowned Slug & Lettuce brand, strengthening its standing as one of the UK’s leading bar chains.

The £6.5 million investment encompasses 12 completed refurbishments. A further four are scheduled before the end of the financial year. This forms part of a strategic programme designed to refresh the brand’s look and feel, with the goal of positioning Slug & Lettuce venues as the ultimate social destinations.

Highlights of the programme include £837,000 invested in Slug & Lettuce Glasgow, £650,000 each in Birmingham and Manchester Albert Square, £630,000 in Solihull, and £470,000 in Oxford Circus. The latest project, Slug & Lettuce Liverpool, reopened on Friday 8 August following a £370,000 transformation.

This summer alone, Stonegate has channelled £1.3 million into the Slug & Lettuce brand, with recent refurbishments at Lincoln, Newcastle Central, Wolverhampton and Liverpool. Further projects scheduled for August and September include Leeds Boar Lane, Milton Keynes, Nottingham Market Square and Durham.

The programme comes as Slug & Lettuce celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades since the first venue opened. By modernising interiors, elevating the guest experience, and highlighting signature offers such as 2-for-1 cocktails, bottomless brunch and Flamingo Bingo, the investment reinforces the brand’s position as a leading social destination.
