Asda announces appointment of new senior executives as part of a leadership restructuring

Supermarket chain Asda has expanded its senior leadership team as it looks to accelerate growth in the year ahead.

The retailer has named Andy Newton as its new vice president of property, a role in which he will lead real estate operations, acquisitions and store development.

Newton brings extensive industry experience to the position, having previously held roles at Safeway, Morrisons and, most recently, Poundstretcher.

Following his appointment, Jim Townsend will remain in his role as vice president of procurement, overseeing the strategy, policy and purchasing of goods not for resale.

Geri Hebberd will assume the position of senior director of strategy, with all appointees reporting to Asda’s chief financial officer, Michael Gleeson.

In addition, Max Hilliard has been appointed managing director of Forza & Kober Foods, part of Asda’s sourcing division, effective immediately. The move marks a return to the business for Hilliard, who founded the company in 2007.

The news follows the recent announcement that Asda’s vice president of marketing is leaving the business.

The retailer is currently searching for a permanent successor and has appointed Pippa Prain as interim senior director of marketing planning, propositions and operations.
