Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has announced plans to open a £60m store in the east end of Sheffield which could create up to 400 new jobs.
The plans include the construction of a 370,000sq ft store on the Old Tinsley Wire site next to the Meadowhall retail park. It will sell the full IKEA range of products, comprising 9,500 articles. The company is to submit a planning application to Sheffield City Council in the next few months.
Sheffield architect HCD is working on the scheme for a showroom, market hall, warehouse and car park along with a restaurant, crèche and customer service areas.
Around 200 construction jobs will be created if the plan gets the go-ahead from councilors.
Full plans will be revealed on April 19th on the company’s website.
