Village Hotels has won permission from Portsmouth City Council to build a £21m 153-bedroom hotel at Lakeside in North Harbour.
The project will create about 100 jobs and facilities will include a leisure club with a 20m swimming pool, gym and fitness studios.
Iain Stackhouse, of Village Hotels, told the planning committee, ‘You will know doubt be aware of the need for more hotel space in the city. We have spoken to many businesses and organisations in the city who believe a lack of hotel provision is holding back the city’s economic development.
‘Our proposals not only provide a much-needed service for visitors, but provide an important facility for people who live and work locally.’
