LACA hosts National School Meals Week event in Parliament

Members of Parliament enjoyed a hot school meal for lunchtime at LACA’s (Lead Association for CAtering in Education) event held yesterday in Parliament, as part of National School Meals Week.

Over 20 MPs dropped in for a taster of a meal that would be available to pupils across the country at lunchtime in schools.

School Chef of the Year winners Kath Breckon, Kate Davies and Tanya Watkins dished up lunch at the event to MPs such as Sharon Hodgson, Roberta Blackman-Woods and Lord Blunkett.

LACA chair Sally Shadrack, said, “I think what’s been important about today is being able to meet MPs face to face and having the chance to talk about what’s great about school meals.”

Barking & Dagenham provided the hot food on the menu, which included a mild creamy chicken curry, bombay potatoes and a lamb & aubergine moussaka. School meals services company, Caterlink provided the salad bar, desserts and homemade bread.

Pupils from Calverton Primary School in Newham were on duty to hand out ‘I am a school meals supporter’ stickers and posed for photos with a number of MPs.

National School Meals Week runs until tomorrow, 4 November.
