D&D to open two rooftop restaurants at Victoria Gate, Leeds

D&D London is to open a new Japanese restaurant, Issho, and East 59th bar and grill at Hammerson's Victoria Gate, part of the Victoria Leeds Estate, on 21 June.

The 725 sq m restaurant will be on the rooftop of Victoria Gate, which opened its doors to the public in October of 2016.

Issho, which means ‘together’ in Japanese will serve authentic Asian dishes with a contemporary twist and an emphasis on sharing.

When the restaurant opens next month, visitors will be able to relax in the venue’s bar and outdoor terrace, and enjoy counter seating in front of a semi-open kitchen.

The second restaurant will be East 59th, a Manhattan-style rooftop bar and grill, named after the address of D&D’s New York outpost, Guastavino’s, and will offer visitors a US-inspired food menu when it opens this summer.

The opening of the two restaurants marks an important milestone for Victoria Gate, significantly adding to its leisure and dining offer with two new and innovative concepts. The arcades form part of the 53,400 sq m Victoria Leeds Estate with Victoria Quarter and are home to a premium line-up of brands, including Russell & Bromley, Aspinal of London, Joules, Nespresso, GANT and a flagship John Lewis.

Sarah Fox, Head of Restaurants and Leisure at Hammerson, commented, “We are delighted to announce the opening date for Issho, a very exciting concept from an internationally renowned brand. The addition of not one, but two D&D restaurants to Victoria Gate will complement the aspirational tenant line-up and reinforce a superior dining offer for Leeds, cementing Victoria Leeds’ position as the leading premium retail and leisure destination in the north of England.”

Des Gunewardena, Chairman & CEO of D&D London, said, “We are very excited to be opening two new restaurants in what is a spectacular rooftop space above the new Victoria Gate shopping centre. This will be our second significant venture in Leeds. Crafthouse and Angelica, which we opened in 2013, have proved big successes for us and we enjoy very much being a part of the city’s growing restaurant scene.”
