Hippo Inns to open Alpine-themed pub today in Farringdon

Hippo Inns is opening The White Haus, an Alpine-themed three-storey pub, today in London's Farringdon.

Breakfast and brunch offers pastries, fresh smoothies and a croque madame or monsieur. From schnitzels and sauerkraut to Swiss beer-battered fish and chips and sharing boards of Baked Mont d’Or, pickles and potatoes, the all-day menu is all about comfortingly familiar dishes with a European twist, using seasonal ingredients.

Spread over three floors, The White Haus transports you to the mountains with rustic timber chalet-style décor, a roaring fireplace, cosy corners complete with sheepskin throws, ‘snowflake’ chandeliers and a bookable cable car for six. Old skis, mittens, photography and quirky memorabilia comes courtesy of the Ski Club of Great Britain whilst a full-size TV will screen old ski movies and winter sporting events. The exposed Balcony level and lower ground Pery Room with its retro ski lift photobooth, are dedicated to dining and also available for private events and parties.

The après ski vibe is taken seriously at The White Haus which means a seriously good drinks list. 1936 Bière – a Swiss lager brewed at the foot of The Alps – is dispensed fresh from tank to glass and the wine list has been curated by the pub’s own Master of Wine, John Clevely. Signature cocktails include a Salted Caramel Old Fashioned, Black Cherry & Amaretto Sour and barrel-aged Bordeaux Negroni which feature alongside a selection of hot toddies, vin chaud and ‘ski shots’.

DJ sets and bottomless brunch are also on offer as well as a series of social events hosted by the Ski Club of Great Britain, so forget packing for the Pyrenees, leave your thermals at home and indulge in a spot of après ski at The White Haus.
