Mellors Catering Service snaps up Preston hotel

Skelmersdale-based Mellors Catering Service has acquired the 51-bed Barton Grange Hotel in Preston, Lancashire.

The hotel has been owned by the Topping family since 1951, who decided to sell in order to concentrate on their Garden Centre and Bowl site in the area.

Barton Grange Hotel also features two function rooms, a restaurant, gym and swimming pool.

The hotel will retain all current staff, with bookings unaffected by the sale. Andrea Burton has also been appointed as the new hotel general manager.

The Barton Grange Hotel, opened by Edward and Ada Topping in 1951, was the first business to be established under the Barton Grange name.

Speaking to Lancashire Post, Barton Grange Managing Director, Guy Topping, grandson of the original owners, said, “We are extremely pleased that the hotel has been bought by Mellors.

“Like us, they are an award-winning, family business and we know they will continue the traditions of excellent hospitality and first-class customer service for which the Hotel is known.”

Mark Timmerman, Mellors Managing Director, added, “We are really excited with the purchase of the Barton Grange Hotel, with its excellent reputation and quality standards.'

Mellors Catering Services, which operates over 285 in-site catering contracts in business and education premises across northern England, also owns the 81-bed Lancashire Manor Hotel at Pimbo near Wigan.
