W1 Greek restaurant delivers first meal boxes

This Friday, 6 November, Ampéli in London's Fitzrovia will launch its first finish at home meal delivery menu.

Centred around a series of seasonal feast boxes the new menu feeds groups up to four and are accompanied by a selection of seasonal Greek wines from Ampéli’s latest list.

A showcase of Ampéli’s new autumn menu, each box contains a selection of warming dishes which regularly feature on tables across Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Each menu starts with a choice of two social plates – including favourites such as Ampéli’s salt cod croquettes; pulled beef croquettes with harissa mayo; roasted cauliflower with labneh, green olive tapenade and pine nuts; as well as roast leek with almond dukkah and herb dressing.

The main event comes sharing-style - diners will be given a choice of either roasted Monkfish, braised fennel, courgette, ouzo aioli and fish soup or slow cooked Lamb shoulder souvlaki, zhoug, citrus potatoes and feta dressing.

To finish Ampéli’s chefs have created a delivery version of their Rizogalo – a Greek rice pudding with cinnamon and blackcurrant preserve or a mixed nut baklava cigar with mountain tea syrup.

To complement the dishes from each menu, founder Jenny Pagoni has drawn up an abbreviated autumn edit of the Ampéli wine list which is available for delivery along with each feast box. This short list showcases dynamic producers from emerging regions who are bearing the torch for modern Greek wines.

Their autumn selection features a silky and aromatic white made with native grape Savatiano by female winemaker Vassiliki Akriotou, a vibrant Northern Greek red blend from star winery Alpha Estate and a Burgundy-like Xinomavro, made by the region's best producer Apostolos Thymiopoulos.

Pagoni said, “Following the recent announcement to move back into lockdown, we’re delighted to be able to offer the Ampeli wine and dining experience for our guests to enjoy in the comfort of their own home.”
