New GM for 4-star Surrey hotel with plans to become go-to destination

A luxury hotel in the Surrey Hills has set its course for success after appointing a new general manager with more than 17 years of experience in hospitality.

The move is furthering the commitment to providing a luxury experience within what was originally the private home of the famed Thomas Cook family.

After joining the Alexander Hotel Collection in 2016, Barnett Hill, near Guildford, has gone from strength to strength. The hotel will now be under the fresh new leadership of Giuseppe Pezzolla — an experienced hotelier who is well versed in providing the highest standards of service.

In his early career, Giuseppe (pictured) held the role of bar manager in a busy ski resort in Italy, before bringing his natural ability and personable manner to Oakley Court in Berkshire, where he further developed his management style within a fast-paced, high-end hospitality environment.

After a brief period at another established hotel, Giuseppe returned to Oakley Court as Operations Manager, where he became responsible for the operational, financial and commercial performance of the entire hotel. It was this role that taught him the very minutia of running a successful hotel — a skill set that will serve him well in his new role at Barnett Hill.

Giuseppe said, “Barnett Hill is consistently positioning itself as a trendy, go-to destination in Surrey and radiates a style that I think is very well suited to my approach. I am so lucky to inherit such a talented team and we are all looking forward to what the future has in store — especially with hospitality starting to find its feet again!

'We want to celebrate the history and natural stately charm of Barnett Hill, whilst echoing the Alexander Hotel Collection approach to providing a luxury guest experience, which has proved so successful across its portfolio.”

Located at the end of a winding tree-lined drive, Barnett Hill is nestled neatly in the Surrey Hills. It is contemporary and design-led with 56 boutique rooms, suites and residences that are appointed with ‘oh-so-chic’ designer furnishings. Spread across the main Mansion House, Courtyard and Gardener's Cottage, the hotel offers the perfect countryside escape.

Ian Heath, Operations Director at Alexander Hotels, commented, “It was obvious right from the off that Giuseppe was a great fit for Barnett Hill, as his approach to hospitality aligned perfectly with ours.

'He has already proven really popular amongst the team and we look forward to watching the hotel go from strength to strength under his fresh new leadership.

'The goal is to position Barnett Hill as the go-to destination in the Surrey Hills — and I think Giuseppe is certainly the man for the job.”

Giuseppe finished, “I entered the world of hospitality at the age of 15 in a bar in Italy and fell in love with the industry. Since then, there have been an abundance of opportunities put in front of me, for which I am so grateful.

'Barnett Hill is the next challenge in my career and I will approach this the same way I have with all of my previous roles — with optimism and excitement.”
