Bingham Riverhouse restaurant in Londons Richmond to close

At the end of December, Steven Edwards, the victorious chef from MasterChef: The Professionals in 2013, will be shuttering his restaurant located at the Bingham Riverhouse hotel in London's Richmond.

The chef revealed his intention to shift his focus to other ventures, including his acclaimed three-AA-rosette restaurant, etch, in Hove, and the hospitality offerings at the Brighton and Hove Albion football club ground.

Having initiated his eponymous restaurant at the Bingham as a pop-up in March 2020, just a week prior to the inaugural national lockdown, it surpassed expectations. The restaurant continued to thrive at the Bingham for over three years, earning three-AA-rosettes in recognition of its excellence.

Despite the closure, Edwards will maintain ties with the Bingham through the provision of private dining and catering services, catering to gatherings of 20 to 40 guests.

'To have achieved three years with a project which started as a temporary residence and opened the week before the first lockdown is credit to all involved,' said Edwards.

'As our businesses have naturally evolved, it feels right to now pursue our separate paths so that I can focus on my other projects. I wish the Riverhouse every success with the new restaurant and look forward to meeting guests old and new at my private dining events.'

The Bingham will relaunch the restaurant as the Riverhouse in January 2024 with a menu focused on sustainably sourced fish and organic or free-range reared meat, alongside organic, English and biodynamic wines.

Samantha Trinder, co-owner of Bingham Riverhouse, said: 'We have loved working with Steven, his exceptional Modern British food has always been so well received. He has been a pleasure to work with, it is rare you get the combination of creative talented chef, astute entrepreneur and wonderful human all rolled into one.'
