Interserve to start work on £30m Newcastle mixed-use refurb scheme


Interserve has won a £17m construction deal to create a mixed-use project by refurbishing a run-down former Co-operative department store in Newcastle city centre. The total scheme is valued in excess of £30m.

Interserve will start work shortly on the with DTZ Investment Management-owned property. The site will include leisure facilities, hotel accommodation and retail units.

Premier Inn will operate a 184-bed hotel at the site when the refurbishment programme is completed by December 2015.

The Grade II listed art deco building extends to nearly 170,000 sq ft over six floors and has been a feature of the city’s skyline since it opened in the 1930s.
