River Cafe team to open second restaurant

The Michelin-starred River Cafe in Hammersmith is to gain a sister restaurant in Mayfair, which will offer the same menu.

This will be the first new restaurant to spring from the team behind the River Cafe and will open in 2017.

Owner and chef Ruth Rogers (pictured), who founded the River Cafe as an office canteen in 1987, told the Standard newspaper that other restaurants that started at that time have two or three more outlets by now, but every time they thought of opening a new restaurant, they wrote a new cookbook focussed on improving the Hammersmith site instead.

Rogers said the team wanted an open kitchen on the ground floor and in central London it had been hard, until now, to find a site with a footprint large enough for that.
