Five-star hotel resort Rockliffe Hall, located in the North East of England, has submitted two planning applications, one of which includes the creation of a purpose-built dining venue.
The first planning application aims to gain approval for a purpose-built pavilion that will feature a flagship restaurant, while the second application is focused on restoring the hotel’s Grade II-listed Old Hall.
The proposals include the construction of a 584-square-metre pavilion, with exterior design elements inspired by the colonnaded architecture and materials of the Old Hall. Inside, the venue will feature a dining area with an open kitchen, allowing guests to interact with the chefs.
The restoration of the Old Hall will also involve transforming The Orangery and its kitchen into the main resort restaurant. Additional planned upgrades include improvements to the upper-floor guest rooms, the introduction of a new staircase, and the creation of open sections between the cocktail bar, drawing room, and terrace.
Subject to approval, renovations are scheduled to begin in February 2025, with the Old Hall closing for the work. The restoration of the Old Hall is expected to be completed by October 2025, followed by the opening of the new flagship restaurant in December 2025.
Earlier this year, Rockliffe Hall appointed James Close as culinary director. Close is the former chef-patron of the two-Michelin-starred Raby Hunt.
