Roti King to open its first regional restaurant in Brighton

Roti King is set to open its first regional restaurant in Brighton this May, a decade after its debut in London.

Roti King Brighton will feature 50 covers in a Grade II-listed building in the Lanes, showcasing Malaysian street art and serving authentic Malaysian Tamil cuisine.

The menu will feature dishes such as roti canai served with dhal, chicken, mutton, or fish kari, along with Char Kway Teow – chewy rice noodles stir-fried with prawn and egg – and Malaysian fried chicken marinated in garlic, ginger, and lemongrass.

Sugen Gopal first launched Roti King as a stand at Oriental City in Colindale before opening his first permanent location in London’s Euston in 2014.

Since then, he has expanded the Roti King brand across London, with locations in Battersea Power Station, Waterloo, and Spitalfields. Additionally, his sister restaurant, Gopal’s Corner, operates in five central locations, mostly within Market Halls branches.

Gopal said: “Brighton has always had a special place in my heart – there’s an energy to the city that makes it one of my favourite places to eat out in the UK. The Lanes, with its independent spirit and incredible food culture, feels like the perfect home for Roti King outside of London. I can’t wait to share our food with such a passionate and knowledgeable community.”
