John Lewis Partnership Board appoints Clare Swindell asNon-Executive Director

John Lewis Partnership has boosted its board as it hires Clare Swindell, who until last month was co-chief executive for National Lottery operator Camelot.

Swindell, who will also chair the company’s audit and risk committee, replaces Nicky Dulieu, the former Hobbs boss who resigned from the board in December after seven months.

Prior to her previously being at Camelot, she was the group CFO at Tesco’s customer data analytics company Dunnhumby after spending over 17 years at the grocery giant in it’s finance department.

She is also a non-executive director and audit committee chair at drinks brand Fever-Tree.

In addition, the partnership has welcomed Jane Hanson CBE as an independent external member of the audit and risk committee. She succeeds Sharon Fennessy, who, following corporate governance guidelines, will step down from the board in April after serving for over eight years.

Hanson brings over 30 years of experience in executive and non-executive director roles across consumer-focused, FTSE, regulated, and not-for-profit boards in both the private and public sectors.

John Lewis chair Sharon White said Swindell’s “broad range of skills and experience in leading retail and consumer businesses will be a real asset to the Partnership”.

“We also welcome Jane Hanson whose experience across accounting, risk and corporate governance roles in financial services and consumer-focused sectors will bring valuable insight to the audit and risk committee.

“I would like to thank both Sharon Fennessy, for her outstanding contribution to the Partnership these past eight years, and Nicky Dulieu, for her highly effective time on the board.”
