New head chef appointed at Sam’s Riverside

“Tom Mumford, Head Chef at Sam’s Riverside”
Sam Harrison has announced the appointment of Tom Mumford as Head Chef at Sam’s Riverside, in Hammersmith, West London.

The busy brasserie and bar has a broad menu offering of British and European contemporary and classic dishes. Additionally, Sam’s business repertoire includes Sam’s Larders (in Hammersmith near the restaurant, as well as in Chiswick and Brentford).

Tom will oversee the menus at Sam’s Kitchen (the day-time casual café to launch at the end of May 2023), as well as all the fresh and frozen food available in each of the Larders.

British born, Tom moved to Australia when he was 18, and returned to the UK in late 2022, taking on the role of Head Chef at Upstairs at The George in Great Portland Street, owned by JKS Restaurants, working alongside chef James Knappett.

Prior to this, working in Australia, Tom held several Head Chef positions – at Homage in Grandchester, Queensland (2022), Black Hide at Treasury Brisbane (2018-22), and previously at Loco’s Kitchen & Bar, Brisbane (2016-18), and Story Bridge Hotel, Brisbane (2006-16), where he progressed through the ranks from Demi Chef to Head Chef.

“Tom is going to be a huge asset heading up our kitchens,” enthused Sam Harrison. “Having spent two years myself working in restaurants in Australia, Tom’s experiences there resonate with me. My time in Sydney had a huge impact on my business style, and Tom shares many of my passions for produce, cooking, and hospitality. I’m really excited by this next chapter.”

Tom’s wife is also a chef, at The Five Fields in Chelsea, so the couple share a passion for food and dining out, exploring the London restaurant scene.
