The Dreamery, a whimsical ice cream shop and wine bar, is opening in De Beauvoir on the 5th of December

Following the success of their acclaimed Islington wine bar and restaurant, Goodbye Horses, and the adjacent coffee shop, Day Trip, co-founders Alex Young and George de Vos are ready to introduce their third venture: an artisanal ice cream shop and wine bar called The Dreamery. Opening on December 5th, this new opening will complete their vision of creating a unique trio of playful and otherworldly spaces in De Beauvoir, all conveniently located at the corner of Halliford Street and Elizabeth Avenue.

Jack Coggins, the Head Chef of Goodbye Horses, is the mastermind behind the ice cream menu and will whip up a seasonally changing menu that balances innovative flavours with comforting classics, all made in-house using the highest quality ingredients. In keeping with the colder weather and the festive season, the opening flavours will include options such as Christmas Pudding and Gingerbread, alongside classics including Mint Chocolate Chip, Croissant and Custard. And if you ever thought you had to choose between ice cream and wine, you don’t! Goodbye Horses’ Floor Manager, Sophie Mathieson, has curated a selection of light glou-glou wines from small, independent producers that pair perfectly with ice cream. It’s a magical and surprising combination that's to be enjoyed at any time of the day.

Housed in a beautifully repurposed 19th-century building, just a stone’s throw from Goodbye Horses, The Dreamery features an inviting design with room for 20 guests, created in collaboration with Ltd Ltd and Studio Bates Rai. At the centre of the space is a large stainless steel bar, which functions as both the ice cream counter and the wine bar. The walls are adorned with handcrafted cement tiles in soft pink and blue hues - created using a traditional German pressed cement technique - and the ceiling boasts a striking grid of timber and Japanese Unryu rice paper panels, subtly connecting the vibe back to their neighbouring wine bar. Once again, Alex and George have collaborated with artist Lucy Stein, whose vibrant work draws inspiration from British folklore and mythology, to hand-paint whimsical murals throughout the space.

The Dreamery isn’t just about satisfying your sweet tooth; in the true spirit of their previous openings, it’s about escaping the mundane. It’s a place where the familiar feels unfamiliar, designed to spark joy, create new memories, and remind us to embrace life’s little pleasures. The shop encourages guests to embrace a sense of fun, leave behind their everyday worries, and perhaps even throw caution to the wind. As Alex and George put it, 'It’s Christmas, and what better time to open an ice cream shop?'

The Dreamery is set to open on December 5th at 20a Halliford St, London, N1 3HD
