Royal Botanic Garden team wins big at Sodexo Star Awards

Sodexo employees at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh are celebrating after picking up a raft of national accolades at the company’s annual Star Awards.

The venue team, who work for Sodexo’s Sports & Leisure division, took home three trophies in recognition of their outstanding client relationship, strength of services and dedication to meeting environmental and sustainability goals.

Following a competitive tender last year, Sodexo successfully extended its contract with the Botanics for a further five years and in the process, became the first Sports & Leisure venue in Scotland to add cleaning and waste management services to its offering.

Food & Beverage Manager, Luke Shepherd (pictured) received an individual award in praise of his role in supporting the Garden to deliver a carbon neutral service, retain VisitScotland ‘Taste Our Best’ accreditation, and assisting the Botanics in securing a Gold in the Green Business Tourism Scheme.

Paul Mitchell, Sodexo Catering Services Director at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, said, “We have had a hugely successful year thanks to our clear understanding of our client’s needs and aims, and our consistent approach of going above and beyond to deliver excellent service.

“Luke’s award is a huge achievement and I’m delighted he has been rewarded for his efforts. He continues to drive forward initiatives and support the Botanics in their ambition to remain at the forefront of sustainability.”

The glittering awards ceremony was hosted by BBC presenter, Fiona Bruce and brought together more than 650 employees from across the UK in London’s Park Plaza Hotel.

Other Scotland-based winners on the night included Commercial Manager Claire McGuire, who picked up the national segment Support Employee award, and David Trotter, who was named District Manager of the Year.
