Bighams acquires former Somerset quarry for new facility

London-based ready meal production firm, Bighams has acquired the former Dulcote Quarry in Somerset to build a new facility, supported by NatWest.

The site, situated between Wells and Shepton Mallet, will house kitchens for the luxury Charlie Bigham brand, as part of a new campus-style workplace.

The new kitchen, the first of four on the site, is due for completion towards the end of this year and will create 100 jobs, growing to 300 over the next few years.

The facility will increase the company's production capacity and support its long-term plans for growth.

Charlie Bigham (pictured), who founded the company in 1996, said, 'I am very excited about our future and our new production kitchen in the West. I’m also confident that it will have a positive impact on those we employ and on the community around us as we advance with the long term vision behind the project.'

The Charlie Bigham range can be found in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Booths, Budgens and Ocado.
