Leading sommeliers to battle it out at Trishna event

Trishna, the Michelin-starred Indian restaurant in the heart of Marylebone, has announced it will host an interactive ‘Flight Night’ evening on 9 May led by top female sommeliers Sunaina Sethi, Sandia Chang, and Ruth Spivey (pictured).

The evening will be a fun and collaborative affair, inviting guests to enjoy a four-course menu of Trishna’s renowned coastal cuisine. The sommeliers will each put forward a 50ml glass of their choice of wine that best accompanies the dish, from which diners will choose their favourite and only one will triumph.

Selections will range from a Pinot Noir from Kent’s Gusbourne Estate to a Polish ‘Johanniter Ultra’ from the Dom Bliskowice winery. Together the trio will share their expertise with guests in an evening that celebrates the wine over the dish and where guests throughout the evening will be secretly voting on their favourite pairing for each course, taking into account how the wine complements the flavours of the dishes.

The sommelier who wins over the most diners on the evening will take the ‘Flight Night’ crown and will be announced the next day on Trishna’s social media platforms!

The trio each bring extensive experience within the wine industry to the evening. Sunaina Sethi, Operations Director and Wine Buyer for JKS Restaurants, of which she is also co-founder, is known for championing wines from lesser known regions while dispelling the myth that Indian food should only be paired with beer.

Sandia Chang, co-founder and Sommelier at Bubbledogs and Michelin-starred Kitchen Table, takes pride in regularly visiting the small-batch producers she works with in Champagne to curate the restaurants’ wine lists, as well as having a monthly wine column with Red Online and regularly appearing as a guest wine expert on Saturday Kitchen.

Ruth Spivey of Craft London and Rotorino and the founder of Wine Car Boot, is equally acclaimed and was last year named Sommelier of the Year at the GQ Food and Drink Awards.

Sunaina Chang said, “We are all really excited to be hosting hopefully the first of many ‘Flight Night’ evenings next month and battling it out to see who will be the diners’ favourite! In the past, a lot of the wine-paired evenings we have hosted at Trishna have had as much a focus on the food as on the wines, but we want to switch this around. By sharing the wine menu ahead of the evening we’ll leave the dishes to be a surprise on the night.”

Tickets for the one-off event are priced at £110 and include an aperitif, a four-course menu and twelve 50ml glasses of wine (three with each course).

The ‘Flight Night’ dinner will take place at Trishna on Tuesday 9th May. Bookings can be made online via www.trishna.tocktix.com or by emailing info@trishnalondon.com or calling 020 7935 5624.
