Beef & Brew set to open second site next month

On 23 July Beef & Brew, the Kentish Town favourite, is bringing their grass-fed beef and craft beers to the former Duke’s Brew & Que site in the heart of East London, just a stone’s throw from Regent’s Canal in Haggerston.

Taking cues from the building’s long history as the old Duke of York public house, guests can begin with a Half pint of fried oysters with a yuzu dressing; or Brisket on toast with pickles and gravy. The star of the show is, of course, the beef, coming in a range of cuts from a host of renowned suppliers. Sirloin is sourced from retired dairy cows, from Txuleta in Galicia; fillet cuts from Swaledale Foods’ native-breed cattle in North Yorkshire; and onglet from grass-fed Herefords.

Each steak is dipped in beef dripping before being quickly chargrilled. A host of vegetable sides are dishes in their own right, including Carrots, dill and buttermilk dressing; Smoked aubergine with honey and miso; and Sweet potato, coconut yogurt and spices. Throughout the week between 6-7pm, hanger steak and chips is on the menu for just £10, whilst locals can pitch up for roasts with all the trimmings every Sunday afternoon.

Of course, the beef is just half of the story, and co-founder Dan Nathan and the team have assembled a line-up of craft beers from breweries all over the country, focusing on quality and value.

Draught lagers will include Sorachi from Scottish brewery Harviestoun, with other beers on tap including Siren’s Calypso, a spritzy Berliner-style sour beer and a Hook Island red ale from fellow East Londoners Five Points. Beer fans can get their hands on specialist beer flights, as well as a pairing menu of craft pours to accompany each dish, while wines will also be poured on tap, with a concise bottle list focusing on small producers.

Nathan said, “I’ve always loved food and have been a keen cook since university. I grew frustrated working in the City and I wanted to do something I was passionate about, so Beef & Brew was born. It’s exciting to bring quality steaks that don’t break the bank to an even wider audience in East London - we’re moving into a beautiful old pub, where we can welcome locals for everything from a beer and a bar snack to a lazy Sunday roast, and continue to champion amazing small producers.”
