Manchester Airports Group plans first hotel for £800m scheme

The Manchester Airports Group (MAG), the country’s largest UK-owned airport operator, has submitted plans for the first hotel in Manchester’s £800m Airport City North scheme.

The 350-bed Hilton Garden Inn will operate over eight-storeys and feature a fitness centre, as well as a bar and restaurant area and conference facilities. The new three-star hotel will create 175 new jobs.

Manchester Airports Group said, “Given the airport is planned to growth to 45 million passengers a year by 2030, the hotel will add much needed ancillary infrastructure capacity and help support the wider benefits that are associated with tourism and the airport city.”

Manchester Airport is the third busiest airport in Britain after Heathrow and Gatwick, passenger number grew for the twentieth consecutive month in January.

Airport City North scheme is aimed at creating thousands of jobs by luring global firms here for the first time. It sits in the heart of Greater Manchester’s Enterprise Zone, which means companies relocating there can get tax breaks and other incentives.
