Iconic London nightclub Tiger Tiger closes down to become 'luxury hotel'

Tiger Tiger, the iconic London nightclub, has closed its doors after 26 years of operation. Planning applications suggest that the site may soon be transformed into a 507-bedroom hotel.

The flagship Tiger Tiger nightclub, which opened in Haymarket, London, in 1998, was owned by Novus Leisure. According to records from Companies House, the company reported owing £91,156 for the period ending 31 December 2023.

A statement on the Tiger Tiger website read: “Tiger Tiger London is now closed. Thank you to all patrons, promoters, DJs, managers, staff members and partners for years of incredible memories.”

Proposals to convert the Tiger Tiger site into a hotel, featuring a new eighth floor and a rooftop plant screen, are currently pending approval from Westminster City Council.

An application for the 'conversion and extension of the existing building to create a hotel' was submitted in May this year by Centro Planning Consultancy on behalf of a client. The design and access statement was provided by Ryder Architecture.

The 15-page planning statement described the proposed hotel as incorporating Haymarket House, an eight-storey art deco style building with two basement levels. Previously used as office space, the building currently houses a restaurant, comedy club, and the now-closed nightclub Tiger Tiger on the ground and basement floors.

According to the current proposals, the redevelopment of the property would feature 507 bedrooms, with 10% designed to be wheelchair accessible, ensuring the hotel meets accessibility standards.
