IKEA opens its first standalone restaurant on a UK high street

Ikea has launched its first standalone restaurant next to its London Hammersmith store.

The standalone Ikea restaurant in Hammersmith, formerly a Wasabi location, has been redesigned to seat 75 guests. It offers a range of Swedish dishes, including Ikea's iconic meatballs.

Shoppers will be able to enjoy favorites like Ikea's renowned meatballs priced at £5.50, alongside other options such as fish and chips for £6.95 and penne pasta with tomato sauce for £2.95.

For early risers, Ikea’s Hammersmith restaurant offers budget-friendly breakfast options, including a six-piece cooked breakfast for just £2.75 or a nine-piece breakfast for £3.75.

This standalone dining space marks Ikea’s first venture into a high-street-only restaurant in the UK, distinct from its usual in-store, canteen-style eateries.

“We know how much our customers love the Ikea restaurant and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant,” said Matthew Gould, market manager at Ikea London City.

“Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.”

The launch comes as Ikea looks to expand across the UK to become accessible to more shoppers. Ikea has introduced over 100 mobile pick-up points in Tesco stores, enabling easier order collection for shoppers across the UK, with plans to double this network to 200 pick-up points.

Two new stores are due to open in the former Topshop store on London’s Oxford Street and in Brighton’s Churchill Square shopping centre.
