Ladhar Leisure to develop £2.5m Newcastle destination venue

Ladhar Leisure has already breathed new life into the Newcastle Quayside through the successful openings of Hop and Cleaver and The Redhouse, representing more than £1m of investment into the rejuvenated area.

Now the company is continuing their mission to restore historic buildings back to their former glory by bringing a 15-year plan focussed on White Hard Yard to fruition in a two-phase scheme inspired by the destination pop-up developments of Shoreditch and Dalston in London.

The project, covering more than 30,000sq ft of Grade I property between Grey Street and the Cloth Market which will be carried out in stages, eventually encompassing five floors and – including terraced areas – at least nine different zones, each pledging to offer visitors a unique experience.

Director Barry Ladhar said, “The family are very excited about this project – it’s been many years in the waiting.”

The firm has owned the building for 15 years and has had licences in place for several years.

However, directors have bided their time in actioning the regeneration project, spending several years working with city conservation and heritage teams, NE1 Ltd and Newcastle City Council to ensure sure their plans make a perfect fit with planners’ vision for the city.

Most of the required planning permission has been acquired in advance, paving the way for subcontractors to start work in January, with the ground floor phase set to open in April 2015.
