Hotel Indigo Exeter announces appointment of New General Manager

Hotel Indigo Exeter has appointed Mahesh Jay as its new General Manager, a strategic decision aimed at bolstering its leadership team after the hotel transitioned to Focus Hotels management in December 2023.

With 26 years of industry experience, Mahesh is poised to elevate the hotel’s standing in Exeter’s competitive market, focusing on driving growth and enhancing the guest experience.

Located in the heart of Exeter’s city centre, Hotel Indigo Exeter is renowned for its boutique charm, strong local connections, and premium amenities, such as Becketts Rooftop Bar, Colson’s Restaurant, and The Retreat Spa. Mahesh’s extensive hospitality career includes prestigious roles like Head Chef at Novotel, Cardiff, Executive Chef at Taj Coromandel, and Operations Manager at Park Inn by Radisson, Cardiff. He has also served as General Manager at several high-profile properties, including Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel, DoubleTree by Hilton in Bristol, and Ibis Styles Manchester Portland Hotel.

As the new General Manager at Hotel Indigo Exeter, Mahesh will focus on enhancing the hotel’s offerings and solidifying its reputation as a key player in Exeter’s thriving hospitality scene. His leadership will be instrumental in driving the hotel’s ambitious growth plans over the next three years, which aim to elevate the guest experience, cultivate a culture of excellence, and further develop the in-house team.

Mahesh’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment as Hotel Indigo Exeter begins a new chapter under the management of Focus Hotels. His leadership will build on the hotel’s strong foundation, taking it to new levels of hospitality excellence. A key focus for Mahesh will be strengthening the hotel’s community engagement by forging partnerships with local businesses, artisans, and cultural organisations, ensuring guests enjoy an authentic experience of the region.

The hotel is also exploring collaborations with local farmers and producers to showcase their products at its popular outlets, Becketts Rooftop Bar and Colson’s Restaurant. In addition to these initiatives, Mahesh is dedicated to supporting Focus Hotels' wider efforts, including their partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, with a goal of raising £10,000 through various fundraising activities.

“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as the General Manager of Hotel Indigo Exeter,” said Mahesh. “This role presents an incredible opportunity to lead a talented team and enhance our guests’ experiences while celebrating the unique spirit of Exeter. My goal is to build on our strong foundation and elevate Hotel Indigo Exeter as a beacon of exceptional hospitality and community engagement. I look forward to working closely with our team and partners to create memorable moments and make a positive impact both within the hotel and the wider community.”

With a proven track record of successfully managing prominent hotel properties and a passion for fostering a culture of excellence and innovation, Mahesh is the ideal leader to steer Hotel Indigo Exeter into its next chapter. Under his guidance, the hotel is well-positioned to thrive, ensuring it remains a top choice for both local and international guests seeking an exceptional stay in the heart of Exeter.
