Handmade Burger Co falls into administration

The Handmade Burger Co, the award-winning chain which sells over 40 different specialist burgers, has collapsed into administration, according to The Times.

Administrators from Leonard Curtis Recovery said that nine of the chain’s 29 restaurants have closed, however, the remaining outlets are continuing to trade as normal pending “a solution which will enable as many jobs as possible to be preserved”.

The company, which has almost 900 employees, said it would seek approval from creditors to pursue a company voluntary arrangement, which was “considered the best outcome for all creditors”. If that could not be achieved, it would seek a buyer for the chain.

The independent family owned business, operated by brothers Chris, Richard, and Matthew Sargeant, opened for its first restaurant in Birmingham in 2006.
