Peel’s £5.5bn scheme for Liverpool gets go-ahead

Peel Group’s £5.5bn Liverpool Waters regeneration scheme has officially been given the go ahead by the go ahead. Community secretary Eric Pickles confirmed he will not be calling for a public enquiry into the ambitious development.

Peel have been pressing on with these plans for the past six years and can now, along with Liverpool City Council, begin work on the scheme. This includes the creation of more than 20,000 jobs and the delivery of 9,000 houses and three million square feet of commercial development.

Further plans include hundreds of offices, a cruise liner terminal, hotel, shops, restaurants and leisure facilities. The 55-storey Shanghai Tower, which is included in the plans will be the tallest UK building outside London. The scheme will be fully developed over the next 30 years.
