Psycho Sandbar, which opened in early 2024, has closed after seven months of operation. Michael O’Hare attributed the closure to 'the changing experience market.'
Michael O’Hare has closed Psycho Sandbar in Leeds just seven months after rebranding the restaurant.
The restaurant opened this year as Psycho Sandbar, having previously operated as Man Behind the Curtain under O’Hare's management since 2014. It was awarded a Michelin star in 2015.
The new format, managed by the same team, was characterised as a “fish-heavy” restaurant featuring a “surf shack” ambiance and a brutalist design.
O’Hare said: “I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved over the last decade. We’ve had some amazing moments and I’m so thankful for everyone that has played their part, either as guests or as part of the team.
He added that “the decision is very much based upon my exciting plans for the future” before admitting that the closure was “reflective of the changing experience market we all live in”.
This marks the second high-profile closure in a week, following Simon Wood's announcement about shutting down his restaurant, Wood Manchester.
O’Hare said: “We’ve achieved so much and Leeds will always be special to me, I’m honoured to have played my part in the culinary history of this great city.
“I’m excited for the future and the next steps in my journey.”
