In the new year, Young's & Co. Brewery P.L.C. will unveil the Tattenham Corner pub in Epsom Downs, following a comprehensive refurbishment.
Boasting views of Epsom racecourse and the surrounding Epsom Downs, the two-storey, 8,000 sq. ft. freehold pub was previously a Beefeater steakhouse. It has now been fully transformed into a premium destination pub and dining area.
Great attention is being paid to crafting a welcoming and warm environment that captures the essence of a traditional British pub. Key features will include a standout horseshoe bar, a new garden room with open fireplaces and terracotta flooring, as well as an eye-catching conservatory offering views of the garden.
The upstairs area will feature a first-floor terrace overlooking the Downs, alongside two new private hire spaces—The Paddock and The Oaks—designed to accommodate various event needs. Outdoors, the spacious garden is being fully revamped to add an additional 400 covers, complete with its own outdoor bar and kitchen.
In line with Young’s premium direction, the menus will highlight seasonal ingredients from local suppliers. This will include meat from local butchers such as The Butchers Block, known for its wide selection of quality cuts, as well as products from Dingley Dell Farm, sustainably sourced British seafood, and craft ales from nearby breweries.
Open for all-day dining, the menu will feature hearty dishes such as Bay leaf and fennel-braised hogget shepherd’s pie topped with clotted cream mash, homemade ham hock pie, and a range of fresh seafood, from oysters to hand-dived scallops. On Sundays, guests can enjoy signature sharing roasts as a special highlight.
Additionally, the menu will feature impressive prime meats, including a 16oz Hereford prime beef T-bone steak, locally sourced pork and Barnsley lamb chops from Dorking, and Belted Galloway ribeye from the Surrey Hills, dry-aged in-house for 46 days.
The menu will also include nostalgic pub classics and inventive puddings, such as bread and butter pudding topped with meringue and custard, as well as sticky toffee pudding. Sustainability is central to the pub’s ethos, with a focus on supporting local businesses and suppliers, alongside the use of fully electric equipment.
The pub’s kitchen will feature a state-of-the-art Robata grill, offering the effect and flavor of cooking over coals without the environmental impact. This grill will be used throughout the menu, from coal-fired whole south coast plaice with charred leeks to slow-roasted meats and salt-baked vegetables. At the bar, guests can enjoy creative takes on classic cocktails, such as salted caramel espresso martinis, alongside a diverse selection of wines from around the world.
On the refurbishment, Simon Dodd, CEO at Young & Co.’s Brewery P.L.C. commented: “We are looking forward to unveiling the latest addition to the Young’s portfolio in January. Since acquiring the landmark site, we have been hard at work creating a pub fit for the local community and racegoers alike. Marking our first site in Epsom, we are investing time and care into crafting a premium pub offering, from the interiors and expansive garden to a menu which showcases the best of British produce.”
Opening in mid-January, Tattenham Corner will become part of Young’s collection of premium pubs in Surrey, which also includes The Bear in Cobham and Chequers at Walton on the Hill.
